Performances & Events

The Symphony is an experience all its own—an aesthetic experience in which music is not heard, but felt. It is much more than the sound of music. The Symphony is a performance that brings the rich character of each instrument in a way no recording can capture performed unadultered by talented musicians. From the sharp clarity of brass, to the unmatched richness of deep strings that resonate your very soul, the many varieties of Symphony performances bring a unique experience that tell a story through music.

Our season includes a variety of different styles of orchestral music. Our hallmark performances are our Masterworks concerts which typically feature some of the world’s greatest solo musicians who perform the Grand Masterworks of classical music with our orchestra. Our Pops concerts held each year feature a reknowned contemporary musical group backed up by our orchestra. We also sponsor concerts, recitals and events that seek to introduce the children in our community to the sound of a great symphony orchestra. And, each year, we partner with local school districts to offer an educational musical concert with professional guest artists to over two thousand school children.

Every Independence Day, we perform a free concert at the York Expo Center with members of our own orchestra, our youth orchestras and our chorus to thrill the audience with patriotic music just before great fireworks.

Beyond our concerts, don't forget to take advantage of our pre-concert talks with Dr. Baker at 7:10 in the Concert Hall, our pre-concert dinners at The Strand-Capitol and our annual Musicales, graciously hosted by friends of the YSO each year. Learn more, meet your friends and enjoy great fellowship. For more information on Musicales, please download our Musicales Brochure.

Join us sometime during our season and experience the thrill!
