Education Opportunities
In School Performances
The YSO provides an opportunity for students to work with musicians and discover a love for music. Yvette Lewis, a Washington DC opera performer provides a one day or one week residency "So This Is Opera." The John Eaken Trio (piano, cello and violin) performs short concerts in schools featuring music listening, families of instruments and the dynamics of music. Many of our guest artists conduct master classes or residencies in selected schools for students the day before their performance with the YSO. Each year the YSO arranges for these or other opportunities throughout the county.
Adult Education
A music appreciation class is held in the fall and spring of each year in conjunction with Penn State York. This class is for anyone interested in learning more about listening to and understanding classical music. The YSO also sponsors a series of classes in conjunction with West York Adult Education that focuses on the repertoire presented at the YSO Masterworks concerts. The purpose of these classes is to provide an in depth understanding of the composers, their lives and what each composition was trying to express.
